Step 1: environment and your first node
- Pin the version and platform firstEach ROS 2 distribution is tied to specific Ubuntu versions. Before choosing, check which Ubuntu release your target distribution supports and whether upstream still maintains it (follow the official release cadence and EOL announcements). Version facts come from official documentation only.
- Get turtlesim and talker/listener runningDo not skip the official beginner tutorials: they verify DDS discovery, environment variables and workspace configuration.
- Build a minimal workspace of your ownOne package, one node, one launch file — repeatable builds before features.

Example repositories maintained by community members are listed above (ros2-shortcuts, ros2-turtlesim-projects). If you have a public example repo worth listing, reach us through the Join page.
Note: APIs and recommended practice differ between distributions (Humble, Jazzy, …).
Confirm your distribution and dependency versions before copying commands, so that patterns from an older
release do not leak into new projects.
